Flexible control options

CMX86 can be controlled by several methods, you can choose the one the best fits your home theater control scheme.

1. Manual control using the front panel buttons
2. IR control using a programmable remote.  You can download the Pronto codes needed here.  The raw Hex format is here.
3. IR control using your standard remote.  Zerokey can learn any remote keys to control CMX86
4. RS-232 control with a PC or your existing home theater controller.  RS-232 programming guide here

Each output is individually switch-able.  You can configure CMX86 in one of 2 control modes:

1. Basic mode:  Component video, composite video, analog audio, and digital audio(coax/tos) switch together.
2. Advanced mode:  Component video, composite video, analog audio, and digital audio(coax/tos) all are switched independently

Audio volume control

The CMX84 integrates fully independent input and output volume adjustments on analog stereo audio using the best quality Burr-Brown line level amplifiers.  Why is this important? 

The input volume control allows you to equalize the volume from all sources to a common level.  Many satellite boxes output volume levels below nominal, so without this feature you would need to adjust the volume manually every time you switch between Cable/DVD to satellite.  After equalization, all your sources will have the same volume level. 

The output volume control is mainly used for two types of applications.  The first is to control the volume on your TV speakers from the centralized system.  It eliminates the need to use the TV remote to control volume.  The second application is for in wall/ceiling speakers.  Since volume control is built into the CMX, you can use inexpensive and high quality fixed gain multichannel power amplifiers to drive your speakers.  Not only does this simplify control, but it will save you several hundred dollars on the total solution.

Video distribution

CMX86 is the ideal amplifier for driving long video cables in your home.  Many vendors claim their products can do this, but very few can accomplish this without distortion of the video.  The most important amplifier design factors in driving long cables are source impedance matching, output connector quality, amplifier bandwidth, and amplifier current drive and slew rate.  Our amplifier uses the best components for all these, resulting in the best signal distribution you can get.

ZeroKey technology

The remote control interface can use ZeroKey infrared code cloning to map any remote control key to each of the inputs & outputs.   ZeroKey technology is compatible with virtually all remote controls, and does not interfere with the normal operation of the remote.  Please see our quick start guide for a description of how to program for an IR remote using ZeroKey.

ZeroKey programming is stored in flash memory, and you will not need to reprogram even if you lose power.  If you buy a new remote in the future, don't worry, the CMX86 can be reprogrammed as much as you like.
